![]() Darin ScheerDarin was born in Wheatland, Wyoming and grew up in Wyoming. He graduated with honors from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. While an undergraduate, he was elected Phi Beta Kappa and was named the Milward Simpson Outstanding Political Science Student. He spent his first year of law school at the University of Wyoming before transferring to the University of Washington with his wife, who was pursuing her medical degree. Darin received his J.D., with honors, in May 2000 from the University of Washington. While at Washington, Darin was chosen for the regional Moot Court team and was elected to the Order of the Barristers as one of the top oral advocates in his class. After graduation Darin worked for a year as a law clerk to Washington Supreme Court Justice Richard B. Sanders. He joined the firm as an associate in August of 2001 and is licensed to practice in the state and federal courts of Colorado and Wyoming. Since joining the firm, Darin has participated in mediation, arbitration, litigation, and appellate proceedings related to oil and gas issues and general commercial disputes. He has written briefs to the Colorado Court of Appeals, the Supreme Courts of both Colorado and Wyoming, the U.S. District Court for the District of Wyoming, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit in cases involving joint operating agreements, joint interest accounting, unit operations, royalty disputes, drilling contracts, NEPA compliance, various other aspects of oil and gas operations in the Rocky Mountain Region, and other commercial disputes unrelated to the oil and gas industry. In December 2005, Darin served as trial and appellate co-counsel in obtaining a $3 million jury verdict regarding a contract he drafted to purchase an Alaskan fishing lodge. The $3 million verdict, reported at the time to be the second-largest jury verdict in Converse County, Wyoming history, was upheld in its entirety by the Wyoming Supreme Court in April 2007. In addition to his litigation practice, Darin has worked extensively in the area of surface access negotiation and agreements. Darin also regularly advises clients on business transactions, and has negotiated and drafted numerous agreements to acquire and divest oil and gas assets and other commercial properties worth millions of dollars. He is also trained as a professional mediator, and has published articles on the remedies available to non-operators under joint operating agreements and the effect of the Colorado Supreme Courts decision in Rogers v. Westerman. In his free time, Darin is a private pilot who loves to fly. He also enjoys golfing, kayaking, skiing, hunting and fishing. Darin and his wife also own and operate a small cow-calf ranch in Farson, Wyoming. The Wyoming Rules of Professional Conduct for Attorneys at Law require the following disclaimer:
