Robert C. Mathes

Rob was born in Laramie, Wyoming in 1974, but was raised and attended high school in Gillette, Wyoming. Rob graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. While an undergraduate at the University of Wyoming, he was elected to two terms in the Student Senate and served as the President Pro Tempore of that body. Additionally, while an undergraduate, Rob was selected for Membership in Mortarboard Senior Honor Society and graduated as the Outstanding Philosophy Student for 1997. Rob then attended law school at the University of Wyoming where he obtained his Juris Doctorate, with full honors, in May of 2000.

While at the University of Wyoming College of Law, he published a case note in Land and Water Law Review in the fall of 1998 and was appointed the Editor-in-Chief of that publication for the 1999-2000 school year. Rob was elected to membership in Order of the Coif and Phi Kappa Phi for his scholastic achievement in law school and graduated as the Peter Maxfield outstanding student.

Upon his graduation from law school, Rob worked for a year as a law clerk to United States Magistrate Judge William C. Beaman in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He joined the firm as an associate in October of 2001 and is admitted to practice in both the federal and states courts in Wyoming and Colorado and is admitted to the bar of the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Rob’s practice has focused on public land law including environmental compliance and federal land use and planning. Rob has considerable experience before the Interior Board of Land Appeals as well as land management and other regulatory agencies associated with natural resource development at both the state and federal levels. Additionally, Rob has significant litigation experience in both the state and federal courts. Rob has authored articles on federal land withdrawals under the Federal Land Policy and Management Act and surface use stipulations on federal oil and gas leases.

In his free time Rob enjoys backpacking, skiing, playing golf and tennis, and spending time with his friends and family.
