Laura Lindley

Laura was born in Narberth, Pennsylvania on July 6, 1954 and graduated from Louisiana State University in 1975, with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Environmental Science. She obtained her J.D. degree from the University of Denver in 1980. While in law school, she became a member of the Order of St. Ives, a national legal honor society.

She joined a Denver oil and gas law firm as an associate in 1980, and became a partner in 1985. She was one of the co- founders of this firm in 1992. Laura is active in Bar activities, having served as Chairman of the Mineral Law Section of the Colorado Bar in 1987-88. She is also very active in the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation, serving as the 46th President of the Foundation from 1999 to 2000—the first woman ever to be appointed to that prestigious post. Laura also teaches at the Foundation’s biennial Federal Oil and Gas Leasing Short Course and serves as a reporter for federal oil and gas issues for the Foundation’s Mineral Law Newsletter.

Laura has expertise in many aspects of oil and gas law, including in-depth title examination work and experience as both an arbitrator and an expert witness in complex natural resource disputes. However, her major specialty is public land law. Drawing upon her extensive experience before the Interior Board of Land Appeals and her regular consultation with land management and other regulatory agencies at both the state and federal levels, Laura has authored articles on administrative appeals, participating areas in federal units, withdrawals from federal leasing, and wildlife impacts on oil and gas development for numerous Foundation publications. She also authored an article for the ABA’s Natural Resources & Environment on the history of the Mineral Leasing Act and a chapter in the ABA's NEPA Litigation Handbook.

Laura enjoys playing golf and fishing.
